17th March 2022
It’s called The Mighty Coe and you may not be surprised to learn that it takes place at Glencoe in Scotland. There’s a packed programme and the great news is that there’s currently plenty of snow there. NEW
The weekend-long festival takes place on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th March on Scotland’s original ski hill.
It’s being hailed as the UK’s first ever ski and snowboard and festival weekend and the first to take place on the mountain.
There’ll be the usual music, bar, food, stalls, family activity and skills sessions – and snow.
There’ll be some emphasis on the growth in ski and snowboard touring and on close-to-home snow adventures that emerged during the Covid lockdown.
There’s free avalanche safety training and advice and ski testing.
Many of the industry’s big brands are involved, including North Face and Salomon.
On Saturday night The North Face & Ellis Brigham Snow Film Night tour and après ski will take place at Glencoe Mountain Resort’s newly rebuilt café complex, which was destroyed by fire on Boxing Day 2019.
Scottish lockdown snow film Grounded will receive a rare showing alongside Versatile with Victor De Le Rue and Sam Anthamatten, and the Ultimate Run with Markus Eder – widely regarded as the best short ski film ever made.
The charity Protect our Winters is a partner of the festival.
It is being organised by Hillside Outside, a Scotland-based events company working with Glencoe Mountain Resort.
“We have to change what we do – all of us. I hope this festival will show that you can still have an amazing time in the mountains without flying,” Neil Dalgleish of Hillside Outside said.
Entry is free with The Mighty Coe Lift Pass, which costs £40 for an adult and £25 for a Junior (under 17).
The pass includes skiing all day, which normally costs £35, so the festival will, in effect, cost you a fiver!
Season pass holders do not have to purchase another ticket but will be asked to make a donation of £5 to help cover costs.
The full programme can be found on The Mighty Coe website.
And, with any luck. you’ll get some great skiing or snowboarding.
