One of the most exciting offseason projects in New England is the long-awaited completion of the new K-1 Lodge at Killington Resort in Vermont. On March 20th, the old K-1 lodge celebrated its final day, and demolition took place soon after. In a blog post from last week, Killington detailed the progress made on the new base lodge, and what the new facility will be like.
- First Floor: This level will feature a rental shop with tuning and repair services, baggage check, first aid room, ticket kiosks for advanced orders, and ticket windows inside for those looking to purchase passes on site. The employees will have their own area that will serve as a locker room with bathrooms and break spaces. A large commercial kitchen will also be located on the first floor, which will service the whole lodge.
- Second Floor: This will feature four hundred and fifty seats and a food court. The food court will include a deli, open-hearth pizza oven, grill, salad bar, soup station, sauté station, and hot and cold beverage stations. This section will also include a walk-up bar with eight draft lines and a coffee shop. The highlight of this floor will be the two-sided wood-burning fireplace. There will also be a second bag check area, restrooms, and a guest services office.
- Third Floor: A grand staircase from the second floor will lead to the third level, home to a thirty-seat bar. Some other cool features of this level will include couches, a glass fireplace, charging ports for electronics, large TVs, shuffleboard tables, a dance floor, a stage for concerts, and a speakeasy room for those looking for some peace and quiet.
- Other Features: An outdoor patio with 180 additional seats and two outdoor propane fireplaces will be a great spot for the spring skiing crowd. Each floor of the lodge will have restrooms, with 45 toilets overall. The exterior of the building will be made out of wood, metal siding, and glass. The south and east sections of the lodge will have floor-to-ceiling windows. The K-1 lodge will also feature two elevators(one for employees and one for guests), an escalator, and snowmelt technology on the sidewalks.
If it’s anything like the Peak Lodge, which opened in 2013, the Beast has a winner in its hands. Killington is expecting a grand opening for the new base lodge around the time of the 2022 Audi FIS Ski World Cup during Thanksgiving weekend.
