“See the zoo from above on our Skyfari Sky Ride, You’ll get a bird’s eye view of the African Plains, Deer Forest, chimpanzees, alligators, and more!”- Southwick Zoo’s Description of the Chairlift.
If you get stuck on a chairlift at the zoo, you’re going to have a bad time. WCVB 5 reports that around forty guests had to be rescued from a chairlift at the Southwick Zoo in Massachusetts. The cause of the lift shutdown was a small oil leak. Firefighters and zoo employees used a telehandler forklift truck to get guests off the chairlift, where they were stuck for upwards of two hours. The rescue was complicated by trees and animal exhibits. Luckily, no injuries were reported.
The Skyfari Sky Ride is a double chairlift that goes above numerous exhibits at the zoo. While getting stuck on a chairlift sounds better in the summertime compared to the winter while skiing, there were definitely some factors that must have made it stressful. The warm weather on Friday and being above varying animal exhibits like alligators and chimpanzees would have made for a solid migraine.
